Business Overview
Kuraray operates six business segments and provides a diverse range of products and services. These segments are Vinyl Acetate, Isoprene, Functional Materials, Fibers, Trading, and Other.
In the Vinyl Acetate segment, Kuraray manufactures and sells polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) resins and films, as well as EVOH resin (Eval). Kuraray America, Inc. operates in North America, while Kuraray Europe GmbH and EVAL Europe N.V. operate in Europe, and Kuraray Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. operates in Asia.
In the Isoprene segment, Kuraray manufactures and sells isoprene-based chemicals, heat-resistant polyamide resin (Genesta), and thermoplastic elastomer (Septon). Kuraray America, Inc. and Kuraray Advanced Chemicals (Thailand) Co., Ltd. operate as affiliated companies.
In the Functional Materials segment, Kuraray manufactures and sells methacryl resins, activated carbon, and hollow-fiber water treatment membranes. Calgon Carbon Corporation operates activated carbon and water treatment equipment businesses in North America, Europe, and Asia.
In the Fibers segment, Kuraray manufactures and sells vinylon and synthetic leather (Clarino). Kuraray Kuraflex Co., Ltd. provides nonwoven fabric (Kuraflex), and Kuraray Fastening Co., Ltd. provides hook-and-loop fasteners (Magic Tape).
In the Trading segment, Kuraray Trading Co., Ltd. sells polyester and other Kuraray group products as well as third-party products, including those manufactured by Kuraray Saijo Co., Ltd.
In the Other segment, Kuraray manufactures and sells liquid crystal polymer film. Kuraray Plastics Co., Ltd. provides rubber and resin-processed products, and Kuraray Engineering Co., Ltd. provides plant design and construction services.
Management Policy
Kuraray has established a long-term vision called "Kuraray Vision 2026" as it approaches its 100th anniversary in fiscal year 2026. This vision aims to become a specialty chemicals company that incorporates new elements into its proprietary technologies, contributes to customers, society, and the planet, and achieves sustainable growth.
To realize this vision, Kuraray is advancing the medium-term management plan "PASSION 2026," which began in fiscal year 2022. This plan treats sustainability as an opportunity and promotes it across the entire group.
Additionally, Kuraray aims to promote innovation through internal and external networking and create new growth drivers. This strengthens collaboration between technology and human resources.
Furthermore, Kuraray is transforming processes through digital technology and advancing the transformation of people and organizations by leveraging diversity. This enhances organizational flexibility and creativity.
In fiscal year 2025, Kuraray will address increased demand in growth and expansion businesses such as Eval, activated carbon, and dental materials, while improving profitability in the isoprene and fiber businesses. This will advance the sophistication of the business portfolio.
