Business Overview

Toyo Tanso manufactures, processes, and sells carbon products for high-performance applications, primarily focused on isotropic graphite materials. Isotropic graphite materials have uniform properties in three dimensions, and the company achieved mass production in 1974. These materials are now used across diverse industries including industrial machinery, automotive, home appliances, nuclear power, aerospace, medical devices, and energy.

Toyo Tanso's business is divided into three segments: specialty graphite products, general carbon products, and composite materials and other products. Specialty graphite products include crucibles and heaters for single-crystal silicon manufacturing in the electronics sector, and susceptors for compound semiconductor manufacturing. General carbon products include pump bearings and seals for mechanical carbon applications, and carbon brushes for electrical carbon applications.

Composite materials and other products include SiC-coated graphite, C/C composite products, and graphite sheet products. These products offer high heat resistance and etch resistance, and are used in semiconductor manufacturing, industrial furnace components, and solar cell manufacturing processes. Additionally, porous carbon products are expected to serve as catalyst supports for fuel cells and electrode materials for energy storage devices.

Toyo Tanso operates manufacturing and sales facilities in Japan, the United States, Europe, and Asia, conducting business on a global scale. Each regional facility manufactures and sells specialty graphite and general carbon products, providing products tailored to local customer needs. This approach enables stable supply with short lead times and builds collaborative relationships with customers.
