ポリエステル加工を事業目的とした1954年創業の鎌田ポリエステル商会（個人経営）を改組し、東京都港区新橋二丁目において、同事業目的で昭栄化工株式会社（資本金60万円）を設立。東京都荒川区に東京工場（1960年７月、事業拡張に伴い東京都足立区に移転、1993年３月廃止）を設置し、一般用ヘルメットの生産に着手。

二輪乗車用ヘルメットの生産に着手。

西日本地域の販路拡大に伴い、大阪府大阪市に大阪支店（2002年５月、国内営業部に統合のため廃止）を開設。

事業拡張に伴い、茨城県稲敷郡江戸崎町（現住所：茨城県稲敷市）に茨城工場を新設。

自社ブランド製品の輸出マーケット拡大に伴い、アメリカ・カリフォルニア州ロサンゼルス市にSHOEI SAFETY HELMET CORPORATION（連結子会社、現住所：同州タスティン市）を設立（2023年９月解散）。

ヨーロッパ地域での事業拡張に伴い、ベルギー・アントワープ市にSHOEI EUROPE BVBAを設立（1993年11月清算）。

フランス市場向けの代理店として、フランス・バニョーレ市にSHOEI FRANCE SARL（現・連結子会社、2001年３月、SHOEI EUROPE DISTRIBUTION SARLに商号変更、現住所：同セーヌ市）を設立。

事業拡張に伴い、岩手県東磐井郡藤沢町（現住所：岩手県一関市）に岩手工場を新設。

岩手県東磐井郡千厩町（現住所：岩手県一関市）にある有限会社南小梨ペインティングを子会社化。

東京地方裁判所に会社更生手続開始を申立。

日本証券業協会への店頭登録を取消し、ジャスダック証券取引所に株式を上場（2007年10月、上場廃止）。

有限会社南小梨ペインティングと合併。

東京証券取引所市場第二部に株式を上場。

自社販売体制の拡大のためイタリア市場向けの代理店として、イタリア・ミラノ市にSHOEI ITALIA S.R.L.（現・連結子会社）を設立。
