Business Overview

Nissan Chemical operates six business segments: chemicals, functional materials, agricultural chemicals, healthcare, wholesale, and other businesses.

The chemicals segment supplies basic chemicals including sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and ammonia. In fine chemicals, the company manufactures specialty epoxies, flame retardants, and sterilizing agents.

The functional materials segment provides polyimide for liquid crystal displays and manufactures anti-reflective coating materials for semiconductors. In the inorganic colloids field, it handles polishing agents and surface treatment agents for electronic materials.

The agricultural chemicals segment offers pesticides including herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and plant growth regulators. The company also handles active pharmaceutical ingredients for veterinary medicines.

The healthcare segment manufactures active pharmaceutical ingredients for hypercholesterolemia treatments. It also operates FineTech, a contract business focused on solving customer challenges.

The wholesale segment engages in chemical distribution, with affiliated companies including Nissei Sangyo.

Other businesses include fertilizer manufacturing, landscape gardening, transportation, plant engineering, sulfuric acid production, and electronic materials manufacturing and sales. Affiliated companies include Nippon Hiryō and Nissan Logistics.

Management Policy

Nissan Chemical launched a six-year medium-term management plan called "Vista2027" in fiscal 2022. The plan is divided into Stage I (fiscal 2022-2024) and Stage II (fiscal 2025-2027). While Stage I achieved record operating profit, the company fell short of its numerical targets. In response, Nissan Chemical has identified three key priorities: creating new products and businesses, allocating management resources appropriately, and improving profitability in the chemicals segment.

For Stage II, the company has set targets of 293 billion yen in sales and 65 billion yen in operating profit, with new product creation as the top priority. The basic strategy comprises three pillars: "expanding profits from existing businesses," "developing new products with an eye toward 2030," and "strengthening business foundations." The company plans to intensify investment in functional materials and agricultural chemicals segments while advancing sales and development of both existing and new products.

In new product development, the company is focusing on environmental energy, information and communications, and life sciences. Specifically, it is accelerating development of secondary battery materials and semiconductor materials, while in life sciences it aims to create new veterinary drugs and nucleic acid pharmaceuticals. The company is also pursuing acquisition of new core technologies through partnerships with foreign companies.

In strengthening business foundations, the company prioritizes talent development and expanding research and development capabilities. It will promote employee self-improvement and enhance research and development efficiency through data scientist training and adoption of cutting-edge technologies. The company also aims to strengthen intellectual property strategy and increase competitive advantage.

Nissan Chemical is committed to contributing to a sustainable society by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting diversity. By fiscal 2027, the company aims to increase the sales ratio of products and services that address social challenges to 60% or higher. Through these efforts, Nissan Chemical seeks to enhance its market reputation and realize itself as a trusted corporate group.
